What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is an alternate medicine. It is a safe form of medicine. It cures the whole individual rather than only diseases. The word homeopathy (also spelt as homoeopathy) comes from the Greek words; homio meaning ‘same’ and pathos meaning ‘suffering’.
The unique features of homeopathy is its principle; ‘LIKE CURES LIKE’ (SIMILIA SIMILIBUS CURENTUR) which means when a homeopathic remedy is given to a healthy individual it will produce disease symptoms, hence when this remedy is given to someone who is sick it sharply causes the body to throw the disease off, hence bringing cure.

How does the medicine work?
It works the same way as vaccination; causing resistance in the body, however, in addition curing the existing diseases. When the selected remedy is being consumed, it stimulates the body’s own healing power; the immune system of the body, to bring cure. Unlike other medicines it does not treat superficially by just driving away the symptoms or by suppressing them, but heals the patient within, offering them long lasting to permanent cure. It cures the disease from its roots.

Mode of cure
Most of the patients are cured as soon as the medicine is taken. Occasionally the symptoms might get worse for a short period of time followed by long lasting to permanent cure. The symptoms become worse because the body tries to expel the toxin. It can also be in the form of cold, discharge, rash or reappearance of old suppressed symptoms for a short duration of time. Aggravations are the exception not the rule.

Homeopathic cure takes place from within outwards which means it cures the internal and vital organ first and then the external organs.  This is because it cures the disease from its roots; hence the skin being an external organ its symptoms are last to be cured.

What does 'Treating the individual as a whole mean?
There are various factors that contribute to ill health: the stress and strain of fast running modern life, inherited weakness, and tendency towards disease, physical and emotional stress. All these factors make our body’s healing power sluggish. When the correct remedy is prescribed it provokes the body’s immune system, which in turn results in cure in the physical as well as the mental state.
The same remedy or the same general advice does not necessarily help everyone with the same ailment. The ailments or the cause will differ from one individual to another in spite of having the same disease; hence the remedy as well the advice will differ. The remedy selected is based on mental and physical symptoms.

Source of homeopathic medicines.
Homeopathic remedies are listed in a book called MATERIA MEDICA which is Latin for ‘Book of Medicine’. The first book written by the founder was called MATERIA MEDICA PURA which means ‘Book of Pure Medicine’.
Homeopathic medicine can be prepared from most of the substances one can think of; however, these substances undergo trituration and sucussion and are tested on human beings before being prescribed.
Medicines are prepared from different sources like animals, plants, minerals, nosodes, sarcodes and imponderabilia. These substances undergo dilution, hence the harmful effects of the substances are lost and the curative properties are aroused.
